UH-Hilo sophomore Vaclav Slezak was named the PacWest men’s tennis player of the week. He led the Vulcans to three wins last week, beating Hastings twice and Holy Names, 6-3.
He was perfect in a No. 1 singles win against Hastings (6-0, 6-0), and beat Holy Names’ Matthew Halligan (6-2, 6-2). He is 6-1 at No. 1 singles and teamed with Greg Zukeran for two wins over Hastings at No. 1 doubles as well.
UHH freshman pitcher Dylan Spain was named the PacWest baseball freshman of the week. The Saint Louis graduate threw his first shutout in a seven-inning 5-0 win over Academy of Art Saturday. He scattered seven hits, struck out a career-high five, and hit a batter. It was the second-career start for Spain.
